Melissa’s Birthday Celebration
Last week my favorite person turned 24!
Melissa and I do our best to make each other’s birthdays special every year. As well as celebrating the classic way, with cake and presents, we also go out to eat and dedicate time to doing activities the person loves/wants to do. I love this because each year the celebration can look different, but still be special.
This year Melissa’s birthday celebration included skiing! She took the day off work and went with Josie to Arapahoe Basin. I, unfortunately, am still a bit terrified of skiing so I did not join them. However, I did spend my day doing some sneaky things.
I went to Walmart while they were gone to get some things to put together a surprise for when Melissa got back. I got balloons, some decorations, as well as a couple of her favorite snacks, to add to my present. When she got back from skiing, my little setup took her completely by surprise.
Afterward, we went out to eat dinner. We went to Hong Kong Station, a Chinese restaurant recommended by Josie and Saahil. Their hot and sour soup tastes exactly like a restaurant back in PA that shut down. She has been looking for an apt replacement ever since, and could not find one until this place.
After dinner, we opened presents, went on a walk, and ate cake with Josie. We finished the night off with some pysanka.
We were also supposed to go camping as a part of Melissa’s birthday celebration. Unfortunately, she got sick the day after her birthday and we thought it would be best to cancel the camping weekend. Hopefully, we will be able to go camping some other time this month.
I love our birthday traditions and I am excited for many more years and many more celebrations to come.
